2026 Rivian R2: Everything You Need To Know

Rivian has established itself as an innovative and exciting player in the electric vehicle industry. Following the success of its previous models, the R1s and R1s, Rivian is now focusing on a new SUV called the 2026 Rivian R2.

The Rivian R2 will be compact and affordable, making it highly appealing. Its size is comparable to compact crossovers like the BMW X3 and Hyundai Tucson. With a starting price of $45,000 and an electric powertrain, the Rivian R2 will compete in the same segment as the Ford Mustang Mach E and Tesla Model Y.

The 2026 R2 will offer two different battery sizes, with the larger one expected to provide a range of over 300 miles when paired with a single-motor powertrain. The interior design of this SUV follows the style of larger Rivian models and includes a 15.6-inch centre infotainment display.

2026 Rivian R2 Design

Rivian Motors has been relying on the R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck for sales over the years. Now, the all-electric automaker is expanding its lineup with a new small SUV called the 2026 R2.

The 2026 R2 is a fresh addition to Rivian’s offerings for the upcoming model year. While it shares design elements and capabilities with Rivian’s larger R1 model, its smaller size and lower starting price are intended to appeal to a broader audience.

At the front, you’ll notice a rounded front fascia, vertically oriented daytime running lights, and a horizontal light strip that extends along the SUV’s side. The thick C-pillar, finished in the SUV’s body colour, is a notable feature. Moving to the rear, there’s a horizontal light bar serving as taillights and a black rear bumper.

Additionally, the 2026 R2 boasts off-roading features, including off-road wheels and tyres, a metal skid plate, and the Rivian R2S variant for exploring various terrains. For adventurers, there’s even a three-person tent available to enhance the outdoor experience.

2026 Rivian R27 Release Date

The release date of the 2026 Rivian R2 hasn’t been confirmed by the company yet. However, several prominent automotive websites anticipate its launch in spring 2026. In the competitive landscape of all-electric SUVs, the Rivian R2 will contend with models like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Kia EV6 

2026 Rivian R2 Price

Rivian Motor has not yet disclosed the trim levels and pricing details for the 2025 R2. However, we anticipate it will adopt a similar lineup structure to the larger Rivian R1S. So the R2 will be priced lower than the R1S, starting at approximately $45,000.  

2026 Rivian R2 Interior

The 2026 R2 will be a compact SUV with seating for five across two rows of seats. Its tall windows and boxy design create an airy and spacious interior ambience. The R2’s interior design will align with Rivian’s other SUVs, featuring a rugged yet premium aesthetic.

The dashboard of the R2 will showcase a large central screen, a horizontal air vent that spans the entire width of the dash, and a substantial-top dash. Unique to the 2026 R2 is a second glovebox and, on the tech front, a 15.6-inch touchscreen along with a small digital instrument cluster.

Overall, the interior design mirrors the rugged yet luxurious theme seen in the R1 model. Most controls in the 2026 R2 will be accessible through the large infotainment display at the centre of the dashboard. Additionally, it will include features like a heated mattress, an advanced lighting system, and a screen for streaming content.
